  • The student can understand the "system" concept. 


Session 1-Foundations of Information Systems: A framework for business users - Roles of Information systems
Session 2- System concepts - Organization as a system
Session 3 - Components of Information Systems 
Session 4-IS Activities - Types of IS.
Session 5- Review and Test



Unit II

Learning Objectives:
  • The student is able to identify the different functional Information systems
  • The student is able to distinguish between different IS
  • The student is able to understand how information is created and used in organizations

Session 6-IS for operations and decision making: 
Session 7-Marketing IS, Manufacturing IS, 
Session 8 -Human Resource IS,Accounting IS and Financial IS 
Session 9- Transaction Processing Systems- Information Reporting System - Information for Strategic Advantage.
Session 10- Review of Unit 2 and test
Unit III
Learning Objectives
  • The student understands the decision making process
  •  The student understands the different types of Problems and problem solving techniques
  • The student understands Artificial Intelligence and neural networks
  • The student understands expert systems
Session 11-DSS and AI: DSS models and software: The decision making process 
Session 12- Structured, Semi Structured and Unstructured problems - What if analysis, Sensitivity analysis, Session 13- Goal-seeking Analysis and Optimizing Analysis. Overview of AI, Neural Networks, 
Session 14-Fuzzy Logic Systems, Genetic Algorithms - Expert Systems.

Unit IV
Learning objectives

  • The student learns about the various technologies involved in management
  • The student is aware of the various global IT practices followed by organizations
Session 15-Managing Information Technology: Managing Information Resources and technologies 
Session 16- IS architecture and management - Centralised, Decentralised and Distributed 
Session 17- EDI, Supply chain management & Global Information technology Management.

Session 21- Ethics for IS professional - Societal challenges of Information technology.
